Dale Earnhardt Jr., the driver of the number 88 NASCAR, has always been a good role model for children. Many young kids dream about growing up to be just like him. He regularly works with children’s charities and volunteers as a spokesperson for the sport. A 15 year old boy named Jeffrey Buzell Jr. was sponsored by the Make a Wish Foundation to meet up with his favorite NASCAR driver, Dale Jr. The 15 year old suffers from a genetic kidney disease. Jeffrey wanted to race go carts with him but found out he was destined for much more than that.
The Time Of His Life
Dale Jr. decided to give Jeffrey the time of his life. First he invited him to his home in North Carolina and gave him the grand tour. After meeting Brad Keselowski, the three along with Jeffrey’s father and another person head to the go carts for a fun race with Jeffrey taking the checkered flag. Dale Jr. then takes the young boy and his family to tour Jr. Motorsports. After eating pizza for lunch, Dale Jr. tells the boy that he wants him to come to the All-Star race the following Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Brings A Tear To Your Eye
Jeffrey and his family show up at the race on Saturday and the boy is treated like a rock star. Dale Jr. has several drivers meet the boy including Jimmie Johnson driver of the number 48 car, Clint Bowyer driver of the number 15 car, and Richard Petty the King of NASCAR. Jeffrey gets to kick off the race by walking out onto the stage with Dale Jr. when he is introduced in driver introductions. What started off as a wish to drive go carts with his favorite driver turned out to be the opportunity of a lifetime for young Jeffrey Buzzell. He is currently awaiting a kidney transplant. He has one year to get the transplant before his kidneys shut down and possibly kill him. His uncle died from the same disease when he was only 15 years old. Jeffrey hopes for a kidney in time.
